Happy to announce that BuddyPress is now available to the world. BuddyPress is a package built on top of WordPress which transforms WP into a social network complete with profiles, friends, messaging, groups, and even activity streams. Of course it’s 100% GPL and Open Source. It’s built on top of MU (which can be tricky to install) so still not for everybody yet, but this is a major milestone in the WordPress world. Check it out. I’m happy to announce that version 1.0 of BuddyPress is now available for download.

This release marks over a year of solid development, starting from the roots of the ChickSpeak project, all the way to the blossoming developer community I see interacting on this site everyday.

This is just the first step on a long road ahead. So much is possible now that we have a solid WordPress-based social framework to build upon.

The poll is closed, the votes are counted, and the results are interesting. The table below shows the actual breakdown of the poll votes, of which there were 2,651. As you can see, there were four main contenders: Dean J. Robinson’s Fluency-based submissions (two variations), the existing 2.7 interface, and Matt Thomas’s comp (MT), which exists somewhere between them in terms of style. We’ve released Carrington Blog version 2.0, a significant update to our advanced end-user blog theme (built on the Carrington theme framework).

vbDrupal is a fork from the Drupal CMS which integrates Drupal with the vBulletin forum software. All third party modules and themes for Drupal should also work with this version of vbDrupal.

This version of vbDrupal is based on Drupal version 5.17. It has been designed to work with vBulletin version 3.6 and 3.7. A copy of the vBulletin software is required in order to use this piece of software.
