I just got a new phone last month, I have a 2-year plan where I get a new phone every 2 years either free or discounted.
I barely ever use my cell phone, but I always have it on me. Always. School rules say "It must be shut off and out of sight"
My take on it: "It must be on silent and under your overshirt"
IE I have it on a belt clip and it's on silent. It was actually really useful; I had to get outside to my dad so he could drive me home but I also had to check my homework answers against the key posted outside our normal classroom, so I just took pictures of the answer key with the camera.
