I tend to like dubs, or anime from a foriegn country which are dubbed american voice actors(most anime tends to look like it is really the american voice actor saying it istead of the mouth moving and words saying another). But some of my friends tend to like subs, or anime from a foriegn country with the original voice actors with american captions. Which do you like better and why?

"Subs" are anime released with the native language intact (most of the time japanese), they are translated into the audience's language with sub titles (more often then not English. But there are many in spanish and chinese to.)

"Dubs" are translated anime where the native voice acting is replaced with voice actors from the audience's lanuage.

"Raws" are anime sources with no translation at all, hence the term "raw".

I perfer "subs" because I like watching anime "the way it was ment to be seen". Some dubs come with terrible voice acting, and alot can be lost in translation. I know enough japanese that I don't have to read the sub titles very often anymore. When I can I try to get a source with Japanese and English voice acting, this way I can enjoy the japanese voice acting while I'm watching alone and can switch to english when watching with friends.

Hmm well i will try and relate this to my experiences of watching programs abroad and the variety of hectic methods they use to make them appeal to my language. I would have to say that i prefer the "subs" method, as sometimes from past experience at least Dubs can often ruin the whole message of a film or episode - by sending out some humerous Asian dude who is supposed to be playing an eloquent, agile aging japanese man!! Ok, mabye not so extreme but still, actors are chosen for a reason and i feel that you should watch the film as the director intended as close as is possible for you to still retain an understanding of what is going on.

Subs.

Although anime music sucks....I really hate to see a english guy/girl sing a japanese song. They sound so cheese.

Yeah but in the anime I watch like Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Fullmetal Alchemist the dub voice acting is pretty good. But I agree with you //Aneurysm\\ it's better with the japanese voice acters singing the japenese songs.

I like the Japanese the most so so subs.

I hate most american voices (Especially Naruto and his "Believe It!" BS).=\

Subs are good because you can hear the film/cartoon the way it was meant to be. It is also good if you are trying to learn the native language of the film because you can pick up all the idioms.
