I didn't record it down, but it was a character error in a PHP file, most likely the CMS file. It occasionally happens to me as well I'd recommend doing a file comparision with the original file to see where you went wrong while editing it.

I havent made any files edits to the CMS based files, perhaps it appeared after the forum had upgraded to 3.5.3 and therefore i had to make a couple of edits to some core vBulletin files before the CMS would intergrate correctly with again.

Yes, it was most likely while you were uploading files. You should have closed the forum during that time, as no one would be able to connect to init.php, which would cause the php error and therefore the forum would not be available giving the impression something went wrong behind the curtain :p
