Choosing Staff

So, you've made a new board. You've made some categories and forums, added some rules, and have a skin. Before it opens, what is the last thing you should do? Get some staff!

Choosing staff is sometimes hard, and sometimes really easy. You always want to choose people that you can trust, and that you know will help in any possible way to help with the board.

For instance, if you run a skinning board, and there is a very active member who posts a lot and is active, but only posts in general chat and spams quite a bit, you would not want that member as staff. 'Why?' You ask, 'aren't staff supposed to be really active?' Yes, they are, but they also have to post things that have to do with the board in general (such as skinning or graphics), and not spam. That will just make it worse in the future, because they are likely to not stop their spamming ways once you make them staff. Staff members are supposed to help members with the board, so it wouldn't make sense to have a staff member that doesn't follow the rules and doesn't know anything about the main board subject.

A lot of times, a good staff member will start spamming after they have been staff a while, and will act as though they own the board. This happens quite a bit, and you have to be careful of that. That will just make your board less fun to be on, and it is usually best to demote a member once they start acting like that.

You also have to make sure that you trust the people you are choosing to be staff. That's just inevitable. If you have staff that you don't trust, you might just come to your board one day to find it gone. One of my friends once said that choosing a staff member or admin is like having a new family member in your home. I agree with this remark, and make sure I trust them before adding them as staff to my little online family.

Finally, to make sure that your staff will stay with you, and help make your board the best one out there, there are some qualities that your staff should have. They are:

1. Posts regularly, all good quality posts.

2. Is on at least 3 times a week. If you are choosing staff after your board has opened, the member should have been there for quite some time.

3. Follows the rules.

4. Is creative and has their own ideas, can help with the board.

5. Are loyal to your board and do their best to do whatever they can to make it better.

Kind of like the Staff post I made, but still good. Nice work.

You can't always expect that, people do have lives. Yeah, some staff people do spam but you have to learn to let things slide to.

I believe Mods should be more active in the General Lounge and Community Members active in the not as popular forums. Admins can do it all obviously.

Great article man, well thought out and you don't sound like a total bookie in this either.

Glad ya like it, I'll change it to on at least 3 times a week, that seems more reasonable to me, xD.

I prefer people who can work well with members over people who can do a bunch of locking/deleting.
