Managing InvisionFree

So, you have gotten an InvisionFree forum I expect, if you are new with it, this should be the right thing to read.

I'll start by making a small guide of what everything in the Admin CP means, with just a few words to keep it simple.

» InvisionFree Network - Here you can see some general information about your board.
· Account Info - Here you can see your board creation time, watch your uploading size, Server IP etc.
· File Manager - From here you can easily manage your uploads and attachments.
· Board Directory - Simply state some information to end up in the InvisionFree Directory.
· Domain Manager - You can add domains for your forum.
· InvisionFree Forum - Access the InvisionFree Support Forums via the Admin CP.
· Terms of Service - Read the InvisionFree ToS.
· Support Ticket - From here you can send a ticket to InvisionFree and they will help you through the problem.
· Ad Removal - This is where you can remove the google ad.

» System Settings - Manage your forum settings.
· General Configuration - Here you can manage the general part of your forum.
· Security & Privacy - Manage the security stuff from here.
· Topics, Posts & Polls - Manage settings for topics, posts & polls.
· User Profiles - Manage some simple stuff regarding the User Profile.
· Date & Time Formats - Here you can set which time zone you want the forum to be in.
· PM Set up - Manage your PM system.
· Board on/off - Make your board online/offline.
· Calendar/Birthday - Manage the board statistics a little.
· Board Guidelines - Edit your board guidelines.
· Warning Set-up - Manage the Warning system.
· IPDynamic Lite Set-up - Manage the portal.

» Forum Control - Set up categories, forums etc.
· New Category - Create a new category.
· New Forum - Create a new forum.
· Manage Forums - Manage your forums
· Permission Masks - Set up permission masks for member groups.
· Re-Order Forums - Re-order your forum orderings.
· Moderators - Set up moderators for a specific forum.
· Topic Multi-Moderation - Set up multi-moderation stuff.

» Users and Groups
· Pre-Register - Pre-register someone.
· Find/Edit/Suspend User - As it says.
· Delete User(s) - As it says.
· Ban Settings - From here you can ban someone by email, IP and screen name.
· User Title/Ranks - Set up ranks.
· Manage User Groups - As it says.
· Bulk Email Members - Send out an email to all users.
· List Suspended Users - Shows a list of all suspended users.
· Manage Validating - Manage validating users.

» Administration
· Manage Word Filters - As it says.
· Manage Emoticons - As it says.
· Recount Statistics - The easy way of starting over.

» Skinning & Styles
· Board Wrappers - Manage your board wrappers.
· Images - Manage your forum images.
· Manage Style Sheets - As it says.

» Statistics
· Registration Stats - Here you can view how many members registered during a certain time.
· New Topic Stats - Same as above but with new topics.
· Post Stats - Same again but with posts.
· Personal Message - Same again but with personal messages.
· Topic Views - Same again but with topic views.

» Board Logs
· View Moderator Logs - View what your moderators or yourself have done.
· View Admin Logs - View everything you have made lately via the Admin CP.
· View Email Logs - View email logs simply.
· View Warn Logs - View warning logs.

Now, again, that's just a simple easy little guide.

Now that you know what everything does, let's go over to how to manage your board via the Mod CP and the main board.

Always make sure you do not advertise your forum in a "spam" forum, that will probably just lead to your forum getting spammed, and then you will need some serious help to manage it.

First of all, you should get some staff. This does not mean just going around PM:ing random people getting them to become staff, pick people you know and trust, in that case, they won't hurt your forum in any way, a random person might agree, but as soon as access is given, they might destroy everything, so keep this in mind.

In order to know what everything is, make a test category, including a test forum, go into the test forum and make a test thread, in that thread, post a few times, trying out all the BBCodes and such. Then click around on the links there is when watching a topic, don't forget to look under the google ad, where there is a drop down menu which allows you to moderate the thread in different ways, such as pinning the topic, closing it, moving it etc.

If you have a topic multi-moderation set up for a forum, it will be showed in a drop down menu beneath the moderating menu.

The portal is usually something people would take away, but keep in mind that with a little fixing up, the portal could become a great website for your forum!

Make sure your staff will be active, so you forum won't look dead as soon as you open it to public. Before you open it, make sure you have at least 1 topic in each forum, this is very important so your forum will not look dead right at the beginning! Also, it will confuse members, they will not know what to post and where to post.

When you have done that, your forum should pretty much be ready to be opened, advertise your forum anywhere possible, add it to top sites, affiliate with other forums that have a similar theme and such.
