As I mentioned in my intro, I'm new to VB and already having some issues. Sigh!

First, I'd like to invite everyone to do a "walk through" of my site PC101.com and to please comment freely on anything and everything! I'm particularly interested to know if everything works as it should! I've been getting error messages/pages so I'm really concerned.
Secondly, I had someone install a skin on mysite PC101.com and from the start I started getting these error messages...

Quote:
Database error in vBulletin :
mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
/home/pc101/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 273
MySQL Error :
Error Number :
Date : Sunday, November 13th 2005 @ 05:50:24 AM
Script : http://www.pc101.com/archive/index.php?f-41.html
Referrer :
IP Address : xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Username :
Classname : vb_database
I got like 60 of them! The person installing the skin said it had nothing to do with their work but I don't know enough to be sure.
I just tried clicking on my links at the site and got some white page telling me there was a database error and to "click here" to contact administrator. I got that same error page when trying to log in! When I went to the site's email I found I had another 20+ error messages (like the one above) and they appear to be just from my clicking around on the links this morning. Here's one from this morning... I guess from my trying to log in...

Quote:

The install guy says it has to be with my server/hosting company but they say it's something the install guy did ... something having to do with "line 273." I'm feelin' a lil desperate here cuz I don't know enough about VB, HTML or servers to know what's what and what's wrong!
I'd really appreicate some feedback on my site and assistance with these error messages.
Many thanks in advance!
Lyte

I've just checked out your forums and i cant seem to replicate this error message. Have you tried re-downloading the latest vBulletin version and uploading the ./includes/class_core.php file? Have you also performed any file edits?

Edited your IP address out of the error message.

Thanks for removing the IP addresses.

I just purchased VB two weeks ago and it was installed then. No new versions have been downloaded but I understand there's a 3.5.1 now available. Is this a critical download??

As for "file edits"... frankly, I don't know. I wasn't the one who installed VB nor was I the one made the modifications to the template/skin. So, I don't know exactly what was touched. Sigh!

I would recommend firstly you upgrade to 3.5.1 this should alleviate any issues you where experiencing. And can help us narrow this down to what exactly the problem is, have you got any Plugins installed either?

3.5.1... I will do that.

Off topic... what file is it that I go to if I want to make changes to my home page?? I know this is an odd question but since I didn't load VB or skin, I just don't know.

Thanks!

The above error is not one that is specific to vBulletin, rather, the server you are hosting your vBulletin forum on. The error above is simply stating there was an error establishing a connection to the MySQL server.

When there are too many open connections on the server as a whole, MySQL may fail or crash, which would cause such an error to appear. While upgrading me help your forum, it most likely will not get rid of the error if the server you are on is overloaded or there are already too many open connections from other websites on the server.

You should most likely contact your host and ask them to increase the number of connections allowed for MySQL or, if the error persists, look into changing hosts.

I'm not sure how many members you have online at any given time, but if you only have a few, then I would look for an alternative.

As for editing your forum, the FORUMHOME templates control most of what index.php displays.

King,

I think you're right! I had my company's IT guy take a look at it and he said the same thing... it had to do with my server! Phew... that's a load off my mind!

Many thanks!

Either deleted something my mistake? or you did not uupload something correctly. I would just re-upload core.php and index.php

Try that
