All this rambling on about hurricane Katrina is really pissing me off. I for one do not feel sorry for the victims at all.

There looting, shooting at relief workers, and having territory wars. Tell me, when did people let the movie Mad Max control how they live? And on top of that, we have people saying "Bush hates black" people. Well guess what, he doesn't. You just can't help millions of people in one day.

Starving or not, did the people that were hit by hurricans in Florida start looting and shooting at relief workers?! No. That is why the rescue went easily and smooth.

The part that really get's to me is that these people were warned about the hurricane almost ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. So when they get hit, there like, "Oh we need help, we have no food and water." Guess what, you could've helped your selves along time ago.

An Indian man, the smartest man in that city took his family in a TAXI cab and left the city a week in advnce because HE USED HIS HEAD.

Discuss.

I would say this is a contriversal issue and i wouldnt be lying. Personally although i dont live in American i can imagine that being around in that area would is going to have been a traumatic experience and for the majority of those who decided to stay behind ignoring the advance warnings you must sympathise with them; leave or not they have still lost their homes and the majority of their posessions those who have left are stuck in outward cities and arent exactly living in the lap of luxury they dont have money, nearby cities no doubt will be suffering as well, (although the hotel industry will be glasping its greedy little fingers together.)

HM you say that Bush cant save millions of people in day; but he hasnt had one day as you previously stated he has had almost one month in advance to deal with the issue; deploy troups and ensure that areas of particular weakness where properly defended and structured before the disaster took place.

Bush cannot do everything. Bush, even as President, does not control the lives of everyone around him. The warnings were enough to send the message, "Get the hell out!"

But know, people just ignored him and said whatever.

What about those unable to leave? Lets face it, even if everyone had left Bush would still have to had prepared troops and such to defend the city against the hurricane; why is he doing it now rather than weeks ago which is when he should have.

The cith was warned a month in advance. Also, I read a report that this was predicted months earlier.

Troops cannot defend a city that's flat. The city is not hills and hills like New Jersey. Once the hurricane formed, that city was long lost and nothing could stop it. Plus, the hurricane was at ocean depth, I doubt any soldiers are going to put there lives on the line, for nothing.

Isnt that the whole point of a soldier? To put his life on the line for his country. Did they travel to Iraq to taste a selection of their finest delicasies? Certainly not.

Were winning in Iraq.

People are going to die, it's a war. Get over it.

No human being can fight off a level 5 hurricane. It's a lost cause.

Face it, that city got it's ass handed to them by nature.

We are fighting a war on terrorism.

Terrorism is a tactic. You can't kill a tactic; you have a better chance of killing a hurricane because it actually physically exists.

In other news. There were people who couldn't get out because, as Barbara Bush put it, "These people were impoverished anyway, so it's a pretty good situation for them because they're used to it". The rich people (the ones who were more likely to be bush supporters based on the fact that rich and republican tend to be synonymous) refused to help the poor people escape because they needed the extra space in their cars for their luggage.

There are people who refused to leave. We discussed this in sunday school and came to the consensus that there are people who wouldn't want to start over. Perhaps for sentimental reasons or because they might not have enough money to rebuild their house and get their stuff back. Regardless, the underlying problem here is that the rich people in the US are unwilling to help the poor people.

-The rich people wouldn't give rides to the poor people
-The rich people will certainly not be giving their money to the poor people

On to the subject of Bush, although I only have one point to make. Tying into the first thing I said in my post, the war on terrorism is horrifically expensive. New Orleans was supposed to have government funding to maintain the levvies that broke during the storm. That money was funneled into the war.

The war which, may I add, had no just cause. Iraq had 0 to do with 9-11, there were no weapons of mass destruction, oil prices are getting higher...so even from a selfish capitalistic perspective, there was and is no reason for this war except to relieve any overpopulation the US might be experiencing by getting our soldiers killed off.

Haha. HM you defend Bush on what grounds? He's a fool. He will be remember as the President who screwed up this situation by not acting right away, due to his slight prejudice or maybe just lackluster ability to lead a government. Hell, even his followers are looking forward to '08. Whether he means well or not, point is, he doesn't do things right.

And since when did they have a month advance warning? Are you kidding me? Maybe two or three day's warning, as the 'cane wasn't even around for a month as a Hurricane, maybe not even a Tropical system. These people, not all of them can just leave. It's not like that. Some people can't just pick up and get out. It was a sad situation on every base..

As for the war in Iraq, HM. You think it's a war? It's not a war anymore. It's a travesty. It's terrible to say that because it is saying those troops died for nothing. Truth hurts. We aren't accomplishing anything overseas but making ourselves look stupid and getting innocent people killed. What a terrible economic waste. People wonder why the Euro has a higher monetary value than the dollar. Things like this.. Things that Bush has had the stranglehold over. The guy is a dumbwitted fool.

Actually, Ryan, they've had a few years' notice. I don't know details but a few decades ago someone predicted that a storm of this magnitude would hit around the time Katrina did.

Again, details are hazy. I was half-listening to the conversation.

Pure speculation. Nobody ever had a full fledged advanced warning over the exact magnitude of Katrina. Granted, I wouldn't live in a place prone to Hurricanes, especially a city below sea level.

How many times have newspapers reported that the world will be ending on blah blah blah. Twice or actually and you cannot expect people to believe something as hazy as that. Personally i only heard about the hurricane arriving only a couple of days beforehand, but mabye that was just the choice of british correspondants to get the news more raw and closer to when the hurricane was arriving.

A few years ago, a weatherman here in the UK said a major storm would pass us by...3 hours later over 2000 where homeless (please note that the UK is smaller than USA and 2000 is a large number by our standards.)

The fact is nature can twist and turn on the human race at unpredictable levels. Hands up any of you who have thought: Hell, we gonna get trashed here...and nothing at all happened because storms subsided or turned around!

You can't predict nature...what you don't want it to do it will do..and visa versa (that's the other way round for idiots)...you can prep all you like but in the end.........

Look at other more serious factors....prep for terroism?Ha! sure, they send you an e-mail...Hey we'll do this on such a date! Nothing in life is certain, and what happened is a tradgedy..and if there are people out there laughing...well...what if it was your family they dug out of the mud?

P.S.
This is a debate and I would never wish anyone's family dug out of anywhere.
