To be honest, if the website provides useful information and content, the desig means nothing to me. Having a nice design or style/skin is a plus, but if the website is basically text and I can read it, it'll get my traffic.

Maybe I've read too many manuals, but information comes first, then design. You can have the best design possible and have people going crazy over the design, but if your content is poor or if you have none at all, I wouldn't bother to return.

IMO, the skin does very much, if you go with the default skin for the forum software, you will not get many members, if you have a professional unique original skin, you will be far more successfull.
