I set up a forum on Invisionfree and got my own domain name (dotcom)(link in sig). I know it's new, but I really want more members. I've posted a link to it on other sites in my sig, I'm making a banner for it, I've asked friends, and acquantinces to join, but still barely any members. Any help would be greatly appreaciated, thanks.

I think you should get rid of the skin changer, then find one skin you really like. Then make sure you have a full set of buttons. All the buttons currently are defualt.
The rules forum is not needed in my opinion. Opps, this is more of a review sorry. Advertising tips below =)

To increase traffic you could try joining topsites. Even submitting to our directory, if you haven't already, may help

Next try to find some large boards on your subject, join and contribute. Contributing and making helpful posts will help your board. Trust me.

Fully agreed. Selectively reply to threads which have a hell-of-a-lotta views or are going to be very popular, edit your signature on the forum to have a big advertisement and make sure your post is constructive. A great way to start a board. On my first forum I gained my first 300 or so members from exactly this. The problem is when people start doing the same tactic to you

Ok, I'll put the rules in Important Announcements, I guess. I just wanna make the general rules visible for the members to see, aside from the board guidlines. I don't think the skin selector is neccessary, either, but I like giving the members a skin to choose from. I'll delete it anyway. I don't much like the idea of joining a popular site and posting there, although it is a good idea. I don't like it because it would require a great deal of time, but I will do it anyway because it would be beneficial in the long run. I don't know where to get new buttons, and I'm not too good with Photoshop yet, although I guess I could try making my own.

As gor the sig thing, I'll expand the one I currently have, or I might just restart it...

Thanks so far, guys.

For buttons/graphics try IFTomatoes or the IFSZ.

Also I am afraid running/promoting a forum/site always takes effort and time, so be prepared to invest some =)

Slack is right, the only true way to get people in is to stay visibly active and involved

Thanx for the links to the buttons, I'm setting them up. I got a few more people to join, so I hope they will get others to join. I noticed my site appears on google, I guess that's because I'm a dotcom. Mebbe that'll attract more people.

Ok, so I changed the forum quite a bit, I think some of the new features will attract lots more members. BTW, Slack, a review is always nice, rather than just tips. It's nice to hear what I should do rather than me guessing.

Sorry if this is considered a double post.

the skin is good, but you need to get a matching button/marker set for it, and a new header would certainly go a long way.

By header do you mean banner? I'm putting in a new one later. And I have someone that did buttons for me, I just gotta contact him. The buttons that are currently in are temporary, as was noted at the top.
