I was wondering, for prizes to competitions how do you reward your members? Nothing that involves money by the way, i'm a little skint.

Well you could offer them;

• A post boost
• An elite membership placement
• Free advertising on your forums.

If you have no profit or generated renevues through your forum and could not give away $$ or $$$ prizes, you can always offer some speical access to the forum or free advertising of anything or a wordpress blog or a small cms set up.

Site promotion is the #1 option. By far. The chance to get their site advertises motivates people like you wouldn't believe. Post boosts and elite memberships aren't usually as popular.

Asking businesses and companies that relate to the same topic your community relates to is one method of obtaining prizes. If the traffic and base is there, most probably would not have an issue lending a hand in exchange for mention or advertising.

If you have enough traffic and the stats to prove it, you may be able to obtain a sponsorship deal through a business (i.e. software developer, web host etc).

That is, if you are looking to expand beyond the norm, such as post boost, advertising and the like. I'm not sure what your traffic level is, but it is something to consider.

Mine's quite good considering it's just started out and is a difficult subject to get members on.

That's basically it unless your willing to give up your allowence money

Some people even use GFX as rewards. Try that aswell.

Prizes don't have to cost a lot. People just appreciate winning, so you can give them something cheap to start with. If your forum is focused on a particular city or region, go to a gift shop and pick up some tourist trinkets for a few bucks. For example, in a forum about Chicago you could give away little Sears Towers that only cost $3 at any 7-Eleven.

It's not about the value. People just like getting free stuff.
