As many ways to keep contatc with your staff is pretty much what holds your staff together. They can't do it without communication. My suggestions:

Have your fellow staff's

--AIM names
--MSN names
--Yahoo names
--Frequently utilize the PM system

If they don't have YIM, MSN, and AIM, tell them to get them.

I have staff forums, and I usually get AIM, Yahoo, or MSN now before I actually promote them... as on some forums, I'm touch about adding my AIM, Yahoo, and MSN. But yeah I make sure they have atleast one other way of contact.

You could make a topic called staff room
And make a topic Chat Box.
Well staff can talk there

I would ask them for their MSN or as u said, open a staff forum. MSN being it's the most popular chatting network currently. Have u guys seen the new MSN beta which allows yahoo IM users to use also, the interface looks great.

We also have a irc channel open also for the forum. Allows on-going chat with the fun element in it.

I am one of the G-Mods on ShinLi's forums, and I must say MSN works the best for us. A few of us have used AIM to chat once and awhile, and nothing really compairs to the MSN, it's reliable and easy to use.

The Nudges are great for when one of us 'drops off the cafe of the earth', and the best distractions are the winks and emo's. I guess it works best for us, considering we're all over the place (Netherlands, US, Canada..).

Ah with more people its like a fish market. Its better to involve people directly responsible/involved with the task at hand in such cases.

Exactly, I get their AIM, MSN, and YIM sns and it really helps keep up with them and to make sure things are going smoothly. I use a shoutbox on my board also but it is better to use an Instant Messenger.

Since many members of my staff are almost always on (seriously...) I simply PM them. However, when they are not, I just hop on the good ol' Trillian and contact them by means of that.

How do you keep contact with your staff? Do you only have contact with them on the board, or do you also keep in touch with like instant messengers? And what do you think is the best way to keep contact with them?
We use multiple staff forums (admins have their own forum that mods can not see). We also use IRC via a private staff channel, AIM/MSN and the PM system.
