There are so many free forum/community scripts around and new ones are popping up on a daily/weekly basis.

My question for you is what is your free BBS of choice? I know most will probably hit phpBB, though I'd like to hear more expansive answers. We all know about phpBB, though have you tried any other BBS systems?

Personally I like MyTopix. I tried phpBB but to be honest never really liked it that much.

There are the only two free BBS I have tried.

Well i guess you could say InvisionFree is a free BBS because it is based off the IPB 1.3 version by one of their ex Support Team members gone astray.

Has anyone really followed MyBB? From what I have read, it is as close to vBulletin as you can get, while remaining free.

I've installed MT before, though didn't have the time to tinker with it, maybe it's time?

myBB do seem quite impressive actually, although i am sure how vast development is regarding additional modifications and skins.

I used 4 free BBS before i purchased vBulletin, i used SMF, phpBB, XMB and wBB Lite,

out of the 4 i prefered wBB Lite, the only problem was that wBB is mainly used by German communities therefor most of the hacks & styles were german :\,

if i were to go back to using free BBS (which i doubt i will) it would be wBB Lite, i just like the look and feel of it.

I think it really depends on what the forums purpose is...o.o

For me, if I wanted to just add a simple community forum on to a website, i'd go with phpBB2, but if i'm looking to create a more advanced community, without paying, i'd go with Simple Machines Forum 1.1(SMF), it's really, really nice. ^__^

If I had to use a free board I would definately go with Simple Machines Forum.

In my order of preference, I like the following BBS:

1. IPB (Trial) v2.0.0
2. MyBB
