My site turns white

I dont know if this is the place to ask, but where else?
I am trying to use the excellent vBExternal program for my VB forum to put threads on my php website frontpage. The vBxternal is made for 3.0.7.
When I copy this code:

chdir('./forums');
require_once('./vBExternal.php');
?>
My site turns white. :confused: My doctype is:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Tra ........
