Wordpress

WordPress.com warns that the free blog hosting service will be down for maintenance starting Sunday, February 15, 2009, at 20:00 GMT (noon PST, 3PM EST) for maintenance and upgrade improvements. This should only be a few seconds to a couple minutes. This does not impact full version and self-hosted versions of WordPress.

The maintenance probably involves upgrading to WordPress 2.7.1, server improvements, and possibly the reported news of some “cool gallery features” that may add navigation links for image pages, and other small improvements. Do not expect any major changes to the interface or functionality.

Unexpected Downtime Explained

vBulletin Fans

Yes, our apologies. We endured some unexpected downtime before the weekend. But this was required in order to ensure a complete and working backup of all the 64 web sites on the server, and their 200 domains, and everything that comes with it.

Because..

We got some unexpected news that the planned server renewal hit a glitch. And it was a bit last minute. A lot of stressful hours later we are back online during the weekend.

We can now continue with our planned roadmap, more about this in our blog!

Thanks everybody for your support.

vBSEO

Hello everyone,
On Sunday, January 25th, 2009 we will be moving vbseo.com to a new server.
During the transition, the site will be offline for an estimated 2 hour period.
The move will begin at 02:00 (GMT).
vbseo.com and our internal systems have been running on somewhat outdated hardware. As a result, server performance has been failing to meet our expectations recently.

However, we have now selected a powerful new server (Dual Processor Quad Core Xeon 5420 – 2.50GHz – Harpertown) from the helpful team at SoftLayer. We expect the new server to provide vast enough resources to not only rev…

vBulletin Tips

This is my checklist and "how to" for upgrading vBulletin as smoothly and as quickly as possible.

The goal is to have under 60 seconds downtime from the time you close your forums until you re-open them. If you’re used to closing your forums and waiting 30 minutes while all the vBulletin files upload via FTP, this guide might be what you need.

Assumptions
You are running vBulletin on a Unix/Linux server.
You have shell access to your server, and you know how to use it.
You have the vb_backup.sh shell script set up to do backups.
Sample domain: example.com, forums…
